Year 1: ICT Programming and learning about plants – Aprendemos a programar y estudiamos las plantas
Year 1 have had another busy start to the Spring term. We have been learning about algorithms in ICT and programming the beebots. Did we get them to follow our path designs? Oue science for this term is all about plants and we have been growing beans inside and outside the classroom.In the classroom we planted bean seeds in different containers one with just water, one with soil and another with sand. We are watching how they grow. Will they be the same or different?

En Year 1 hemos comenzado el trimestre muy ocupados. En TIC hemos estado aprendiendo sobre algoritmos y hemos programado los beebots. ¿Conseguimos que siguieran los caminos que diseñamos para ellos? En ciencias, en este trimestre hemos estado cultivando alubias tanto dentro como fuera de la clase. En el interior plantamos las semillas de alubias en distintos contenedores, uno solo con agua, el otro con tierra y el otro con arena. Estamos viendo cómo están creciendo ¿Serán iguales o diferentes?
Year 2: Rainforest and animals – La selva y los animales
Year 2 have been learning about the Rainforest in Topic and Science. They have researched animals of the rainforest to learn about carnivores, herbivores and habitats. They then created artwork with their chosen animals in the different layers of the rainforest.
En Year 2, hemos estado trabajando el tema de la Selva. Los niños han investigado sobre los animales de la selva para aprender sobre los carnívoros, herbívoros y sus hábitats. Además, han elegido un animal y lo han dibujado en en distintas zonas de la selva.
Year 3: News year resolutions an the Ancient Rome. Propósitos de año nuevo y el Imperio Romano
In Year 3 we made new year ‘monsters’ for resolutions – things we want to do better or try for new or change in the new year. During January we started our new Spring topic of ‘Ancient Rome’. To create interest and questions about the topic, children found out about money in Roman times and made their own Roman coins in clay. We looked at the story of Romulus and Remus to explain how Rome was founded then created wolf face paintings trying to think about small and large brush strokes and blending colours. We also looked at the different types of mosaic designs as a Roman art form, considering how they were made and what from and looking at the regular use of the tiles and how they created shading by carefully using colours
En Year 3 comenzamos el trimestre trabajando los propósitos de año nuevo, los niños reflexionaron sobre las cosas que podrían hacer mejor, cambiar o empezar con el nuevo año. Durante el mes de enero han empezado a trabajar con “La Antigua Roma”. Para crear interés y que los niños pregunten sobre el tema, los niños han investigado sobre el dinero en tiempos romanos y han fabricado sus propias monedas en barro. Hemos leído la historia de Romulus y Remus para explicar cómo se creó el Imperio romano. Pintamos caras de lobo tratando de pensar en cómo tenían que ser las pinceladas (pequeñas o grandes) y cómo tenían que mezclar los colores. Estudiamos también el arte romano observando diferentes tipos de mosaicos, aprendiendo cómo se hicieron y de qué y observando el uso regular de los mosaicos y cómo crearon sombras usando cuidadosamente los colores.
Watch out – the Year 4 Vikings are coming!! Cuidado: ¡vienen los vikingos de Year 4!
In Year 4 we are starting to learn about the Vikings. So far we have found out that they reached America five hundred years BEFORE Christopher Columbus and that they weren’t all ferocious warriors. In fact, many of them settled in other countries to live peacefully as farmers or craftsmen. You can see from the photo that we have designed our own Viking shields and made small models of a Viking long ship. Year 4 are now looking forward to discovering lots more fascinating facts about the Vikings, including which Gods and Goddesses they believed in, and the rune alphabet that they used.
En Year 4 hemos aprendido sobre los vikingos. Hasta ahora hemos descubierto que llegaron a América quinientos años antes de Cristóbal Colón y que no todos eran guerreros feroces. De hecho, muchos de ellos se establecieron en otros países para vivir pacíficamente como agricultores o artesanos. Hemos diseñado nuestros propios escudos vikingos y hemos hecho pequeños modelos de un barco vikingo. En las próximas semanas descubrirán más hechos fascinantes sobre los vikingos, incluyendo en qué Dioses y Diosas creían, y el alfabeto rúnico que usaban.
Y5: ‘Beast Creator’ the arthropods and Andalucia Region – ‘Beast Creator’ Los artrópodos y Andalucía
Year 5 started the new year off with a new topic called ‘Beast Creator’. This topic is all about arthropods, their habitats, The Galapagos Islands and Charles Darwin. The children have investigated the different features of arthropods and how these can be classified into different groups. An arthropod hunt around the school grounds and a visit to the school Bug Hotel will follow soon. The children have thoroughly enjoyed their learning with the following comments made by some of the children: «I now know how diverse the Galapagos Islands are», «I now know who Charles Darwin is and the importance of what he found out» and «I am going to ask for The Origin of Species book for my birthday». There is still much more learning to do as part of this topic and I know the children are just as excited as the teachers are to discover more!
In Sociales, students are soaking up the Andalusian culture and their own traditions. To do this, they worked in groups and after and made an in-depth study of the province selected. Then they must convince that their province is the best.
Year 5 comenzó el nuevo año con el tema llamado ‘Beast Creator’ que trata sobre los artrópodos, sus hábitats, las Islas Galápagos y Charles Darwin. Los niños han investigado las diferentes características de los artrópodos y cómo se pueden clasificar en diferentes grupos. Pronto se realizará una búsqueda de artrópodos por los terrenos de la escuela y visitaremos el “Hotel de insectos” de la escuela. Los niños han disfrutado mucho de su aprendizaje: «Ahora sé lo diversas que son las Islas Galápagos», «Ahora sé quién es Charles Darwin y la importancia de lo que descubrió» y «Yo voy a pedir el libro El origen de las especies para mi cumpleaños «. Todavía hay mucho más que aprender a hacer como parte de este tema y sé que los niños están tan entusiasmados como los maestros por descubrir más.
En Sociales, los alumnos están empapándose de la cultura andaluza y de sus propias tradiciones. Para ello, se han dividos en grupo y tras realizar un estudio en profundidad de la provincia que les ha tocado por grupos. Luego tenían que convencer al resto de grupos que su provincia era la mejor.
Year 6: Ancient Greece – La Antigua Grecia
In year 6 we have been studying the topic of, ´Ancient Greece`. We have read lots of exciting Greek myths and explored their features: different types of villains and heroines, mythical creatures, the setting and the moral of the stories. As part of the topic, we have written recounts of Greek myths and have started to write our own Greek myth play. We have paid attention to making our writing, creative, imaginative and very interesting to read. Furthermore, we have explored life in Ancient Greece and made swords and coins from that period, which we will use when we perform our plays. This has been a really engaging topic that the children of year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed doing.´
En Year 6 hemos estado aprendiendo sobre la Antigua Grecia. Hemos leído muchos mitos griegos emocionantes y explorado sus características: diferentes tipos de villanos y heroínas, criaturas míticas, el escenario y la moraleja de las historias. Como parte del tema, hemos escrito relatos de mitos griegos y hemos empezado a escribir nuestra propia obra de mitos griegos. Hemos prestado especial atención en que nuestra escritura sea creativa, imaginativa y muy interesante de leer. Además, hemos explorado la vida en la Antigua Grecia e hicimos espadas y monedas de ese período, que usaremos cuando realicemos nuestros juegos. Los niños han disfrutado mucho con este interesante tema.
